On 13 March 2024, HKGreenBrands participated in the Alumni Startup event co-organised by the Centre for Civil Society and Governance Research at the University of Hong Kong and the Master's Program in Sustainable Leadership and Governance! 🙌🏻







During the event, we had the opportunity to interact with the founders and members of the brands, and learned about their stories and perspectives on sustainable development. Their creations have brought a lot of inspiration and reflection to the current generation in Hong Kong. 🔥

1) enid.scents

enid.scents is a homegrown eco- and wellbeing-conscious aromatherapy brand that believes in the power of breath as a bridge between body, mind, soul, and nature. Their uniquely hand-crafted, all-natural creations are infused with the healing power of nature.

The brand name "enid" stands for "empower n inspire dreamers". In addition to creating natural scents, enid.scents actively promotes a more conscious lifestyle by delivering self-love messages and themes that inspire living a more fulfilled life with peace, energy, and compassion.

Their signature product is the Bamboo Massage Candles™, which are the only ones of their kind in Hong Kong. Housed in natural bamboo containers and formulated with up to 10 ethically sourced pure essential oils and organic virgin jojoba oil, these candles offer a holistic candle burning experience with healing aromatherapy benefits.

The brand was founded by a team of 3 friends - Jamie, Hilary, and Tiffany - who share a passion for analytical science, aromatherapy, and connecting with people and nature. They all grew up in Hong Kong and studied abroad in the UK and Australia, with a common career background in aviation.

2) Purebamboo

PureBamboo is a personal care company dedicated to providing healthy, safe, and eco-friendly products. They strictly adhere to international production standards and have obtained various certifications, including FSC100% for their bamboo materials, FDA food-grade standards, ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety).

PureBamboo's production facilities, quality control, and management practices ensure sustainable consumer products and promote carbon emission reduction solutions. Their bamboo paper tissues are produced locally in Sichuan using locally sourced raw materials to minimize carbon emissions from transportation.

The production process, from raw materials to manufacturing, is conducted under rigorous international-level verification management to maintain the highest quality standards. PureBamboo also has a waste treatment system that meets national environmental protection indicators, ensuring their production causes minimal harm to the earth's ecology.

The company aligns with the global ESG development direction and actively implements several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to build a sustainable world in partnership with the public, community, and the world.

3) Mylea

Mylea is a leather-like material made from Mushroom Mycelium, inspired by mycelium tempeh. It serves as a nature-based polymer and adhesive that is significantly less toxic than traditional bovine leather. Mylea is produced by upcycling agri-forestry waste, rather than letting it decompose in landfills.

Compared to bovine leather, Mylea avoids the use of toxic and carcinogenic chemicals like chromium salt and heavy metal synthetic dyes that are commonly found in animal leather tanning.

Mylea has a unique surface characteristic and is positioned as a high-performance and sustainable material developed through biotechnology. The company's goal is to provide this material to the global market while empowering local communities.

LoCoFARMS is a food and agriculture innovation brand that focuses on local Hong Kong crops and production. LoCoFARMS sources high-quality, seasonal ingredients from local farms and handcrafts each product without any additives. The brand brings together farmers and artisanal food makers to showcase the unique characteristics of local Hong Kong crops, creating innovative local flavours.

LoCoFARMS' product lineup features handcrafted beverages, original sauces and condiments, and naturally fermented foods. The brand also releases seasonal products based on the availability of local ingredients, allowing customers to experience the flavours of Hong Kong's four seasons.

The core mission of LoCoFARMS is to explore the new potential of local crops and promote a sustainable food and agricultural culture in Hong Kong by prioritising locally grown and produced items.
