End plastic by using recycled-packaged products

Posted on February 29, 2024

Choosing for products packaged with recycled materials requires less energy compared to those made from virgin materials. Recycling eliminates the need for resource-intensive processes like extraction, refinement, and transportation. This means reduced carbon emissions and a lighter environmental footprint. Just imagine the energy saved when one ton of recycled plastic can conserve 5,774 kilowatt-hours of energy or 16.3 barrels of oil.🛢️

In Hong Kong, approximately 66% of municipal solid waste ends up in overflowing landfills. Landfills not only occupy valuable land, but they also contribute to climate change. Methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas, is produced in landfills, adding to the global warming problem. By choosing recycled-packaged products, we can help minimise the burden on our landfills. 🚮

Microplastics are generated through the photo-degradation of plastic items in the ocean. Over time, these plastics break down into particles smaller than 5mm in diameter. However, by effectively collecting and transporting these materials to appropriate recycling facilities, we can prevent them from entering the ocean altogether.⚡️

Each one of us can make a difference by consciously choosing products packaged with recycled materials. Look for labels that indicate recycled content or packaging made from post-consumer waste. By supporting businesses that prioritize sustainability, we can create a demand for recycled-packaged products, encouraging more companies to adopt eco-friendly practices.🍃
